The Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) program is sponsored by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and is available to communities across the state. It is designed to promote effective redevelopment strategies through a set of best practices. In order to engage in the program, interested communities must complete training, a self-evaluation of current practices, and pass a resolution expressing intent to participate in RRC.
The City has taken several steps toward participation in RRC. Several members of the Planning Commission, City Council, and staff completed MEDC training in 2017. The Resolution of Intent to Participate was passed by City Council in December of 2017. The City incorporated RRC best practices and the marketing of development ready sites in the recently adopted Master Plan. RRC staff presented a Baseline Assessment in December of 2018 and City Council passed a Resolution accepting the recommendations and committing to participation at that same time. The City is actively reviewing and updating procedures and processes to address the recommendations in the Baseline Assessment with the intent of achieving RRC Certification.
Copies of the various assessments and resolutions is included below.
